Virtuell Coffee - My Weekend

Good Morning.
It`s Monday again, crazy how fast the weekend past. Today I have the morning off and only have to be at work by noon. So I`m using my free time to have a relaxed breakfast, do my workout and read blogpost and join the virtuell coffee with Bine

My weekend was wonderful, but the weather could have been a little cooler...it is getting crazy hot here. I never knew you could sweat so much when just sitting around and doing nothing. 
My Saturday morning started with my usual workout and then I and my boyfriend were invited to an African wedding - gift - ceremony. After a wedding the father of the husband gives the family of the wife a gift, usually it`s food they share with friends and do a big party. I never been on a event like this before and I was surprised that the married couple already had been married since 6 years...I thought there newlyweds. Anyways, it was interesting to be at the party. There were many chairs all lined up and everything was very organized and planned through. The food was served on a table in little boxes to keep it warm, it all was very simple, typical Kenya dishes, but very delicious.


After that Event we left to buy some vegetables and fruits on a vegetable market that is about 40min away from the village I live. Unfortunately it`s the closest to me. You can go there by bus, and they fill it up, until at least 4 person sit on 2 seats and you almost can`t breathe any more. You get used to it ;)

On Sunday I mostly relaxed. I cleaned a little in our house, got mad about another frog in our bathroom and was tiered because of the doves on our roof…They keep us from sleeping well since weeks. 


In the evening I enjoyed a cold Tusker, a typical African beer which really tastes good. And it`s not so bad to drink warm, but you have no other choice here anyways;) 


I also started to prepare green lentils because I wanted to cook Ndengu, a classic Kenya dish. But because it took my longer than I thought I didn`t went through too much….So the Ndengu has to wait;)

Bad mood...

Yesterday was one of these days, where for no reason I didn`t felt so good.  Î guess you all know these days...your tired, the tinest things drives you mad,  you don`t want to do anything, the sun is not shining but when it`s too hot and so on...

I can`t quite put my finger on what was wrong, there was no clear reason why I was in a bad, sad mood. I kept thinking about what made me feel this way - which ended with the result that I felz even worse...

Days like these I value this C.S. Lewis quote:

"Part of every misery is, so to speak, the misery's shadow or reflection: the fact that you don't merely suffer but have to keep on thinking about the fact that you suffer. I not only live each endless day in grief, but live each day thinking about living each day in"
So let`s stop thinking about how bad we feel, it makes everything even worse...Let`s appreciate the moments we feel good. The voice in our head that tells us it`s a bad day, that keeps us feeling worse, it may not be our voice but somebody trying to ruin a beautiful day that God wants to lay in front uf us...

African stir fry

I had rice leftover and was thinking what to do with it...
Whenever I have leftovers I usually like to put it all together and make a stir fry with a lot of vegetables. Since I was just went to the market I had a bigger selection of vegetables. I decided I want to use zuchini, tomato, green beans and to spice it up one green bell pepper. I added some African spices - to be exact Pilau Masala - and it turned out extremely delicious. 
Pilau Masala is a mixture of spices. It includes cumin, black pepper, cardamon, cinnamon and cloves. It tastes very oriantal and the cinnamon and the gloves are giving it a nice twist.
This is what I came up with…

 Serves 2:
  • 100 gram green beans 
  • 1 zuchini 
  • 1 tomato 
  • 1 red onion 
  • 1 green bell pepper 
  • 200 gram Rice (I had leftovers) 
  • Salt 
  • Pepper 
  • Pilau Masala 
  • Water


  1. Start by washing all your vegetables 
  2. Then prepare the green beans. Cut off the ends on both side and then cut them in half. 
  3. Cover them with water – but not more than covered. Add salt and cook them for about 7-10 Minutes. They still need to be firm to the bite. When ready – remove the water and set them aside. (If you can, put them in iced water – this helps the green beans to not lose their color) 
  4. Now slice the onion, zucchini, tomato and bell pepper into fine pieces. 
  5. Add oil to a pan and slightly fry the onion. Add the zucchini and tomato and all the spices. Wait for about 2 Minutes and then add as much water till the vegetables are covered. Cover the pan with a lid and let them cook for about 7-10 Minutes, or until tender, 
  6. Now add the green beans and the rice, stir it well and let it all become hot.
Voila – you’re finished.

I really liked how it turned out. You can of course switch the vegetable i used with whatever vegetables you have at home right now. That`s the beauty of this meal.

Photo Project - Finds

As I was taking a walk around my house to get to know my neighbourhood better, I was passing a lot a lot of beautiful contrasts in the nature. There is this dried out river, and next to it this beautiful big green Tree – just to a completely dried out tree. There is dusty dried out field but when you look closely you can find everywhere yellow little fruits growing near to the ground. What stroke me the most was this picture:
A  big thornbush, but hidden inside blooms a beautiful red flower and fights it way through.
Beauty is find everywhere – we just got to open our eyes.

5 Things I`m loving right now...

Today I want to right about 5 things I`m really enjoying at the moment. They are varios things and I wanted to combine then in a blogpost and not writte about them in a several post...but who knows, maybe I will one day;)

1. Chapati - Hmmm, if could I would eat everyday. But it`s not the healthiest choice, so I try to eat only sometime.

2. Katie Malue - I cried for you - I`ve never really liked her music. But three days ago I stumbeld across this song and I immediatly fell in love with it. Now I listen to it daily...=) Listen to it here: Katie Malue

3. A cloudy sky - because then it`s not so hot. The last days it was cloudy and I loved it.

4. Korres Suncreen – I have sensitive skin but this sunscreen protect my skin perfectly, moisturize it and most important does not irritated it. 
 
5. Olive Oil – my skin gets very dry in this dry climate. Olive oil helps me skin to log in the moisture and keeps it soft

Lush Buffy Bodybutter


Every now and then I like to treat my skin with something special. For me right now that`s a peeling with Lushs Buffy.
Buffy is not just a normal peeling, it contains a lot of very nourishing ingredients and it leaves your skin incredible soft.


This is what Lush says:

"Massage our Buffy body butter all over your wet skin in the bath or shower to make you softer and smooth to the touch, paying special attention to your backside. We add ground rice, almonds and beans to Buffy to act as exfoliants; the rough textures eliminate lumps and bumps and sloughs away dry skin cells to reveal brighter, fresher looking skin. Rinse off the exfoliating bits and pat yourself dry. There's no need for body lotion after a Buffy slaying session, because the cocoa and shea and cocoa butter keep your skin beautifully smooth, moisturized and soft to the touch." Lush

Let me say, this peeling leaves my skin so soft, it`s unbelievable. There is really no need to moisturize later on, because your skin if soft and plump. The exfoliants are very soft, but still do their job. It`s very good for sensitive skin like mine, because it does not irritate or is too harsh. Also there are no chemicals inside this bar, which is a very important fact for me, since I only buy natural cosmetics.

Ingredient:

Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Ground Rice, Ground Almonds, Ground Aduki Beans, Fragrance, Lavender Oil, Lemon Oil, *Citral , *Limonene , *Linalool   


Once you are in the shower and begin to massage it on your wet skin, you can feel it exfoliate. It leaves the exfoliating bits on the skin and sometime you can also see the white butter.
After I finished massaging it over my body, I start massaging it in with my hands. This helps the butter to melt and also gives you a better exfoliation.  Afterwards you have to wash it off very well and double check your body before leaving the shower because the exfoliating bits tend to stick on the body. 

Now you only need to pad yourself dry, please don`t rub, then all the butter will also be rubbed away. I can put my clothes straight on afterwards and never had a problem with sticky skin, so that`s a plus.


I really love the peeling and highly recommend it.
